Maine Coastal Paddleboarding – Acadia National Park and Island Routes

Updated January 2026 | Paddled Bar Harbor and Somes Sound in September 2024

Best Launch: Pretty Marsh picnic area on the west side of Mount Desert Island – 44.3547N, 68.3789W. Calm water, easy put-in, and you can paddle into Bartlett Narrows. I saw harbor seals on every trip in September 2024. Peak foliage was October 5-15 that year – the shoreline colors were insane.

Water temp warning: Maine water stays cold even in summer. I wear a 3mm wetsuit into early September. Hypothermia is real if you fall in. A PFD is legally required and genuinely a good idea here.
